Maleny Dairies is located here and is a family owned and operated business established as a dairy in 1948. The Hopper family built a milk processing plant here and began processing their own milk and milk from other farms in the region in 2002. The milk and yoghurts processed at the Maleny Dairies are award winning. Tours of the farm and processing plants are available. The cows used on the farm are Guernsey’s and it is the belief of the family that these are the best dairy cows, with milk high in protein and butterfat with a creamy taste and appearance.

Take a guided tour to the baby animal pens and pet the goats and calves. Hear a history of the farm and reasons behind the need for the Maleny Dairies. Sweetpea the cow will then allow a demonstration of hand milking techniques and children will be invited to put their thumbs in the suction cups to feel the suction used by the milking machines. The tour then takes you to the processing plant to see how the milk is processed and bottled. Next its on to the cold rooms and dry store area. To explain how it all works from beginning to end, tour visitors will view a six minutes video on the process of who, what, where, and how we get our milk. The tour concludes with tasting of the award winning flavored milks. Tours are only $7AUD for those over two years, and they generally take around one and a half hours to complete each tour.
